This world map was created by the Belgian cartographer, engraver and publisher Cornelis de Jode (1568-1600). He published his father's uncompleted atlas, the Speculum Orbis Terrae in 1593. The atlas was supposed to compete with the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum from Ortelius.
The map is decorated with lines that are radiating from certain points. These look similar to the straight lines criss-crossing many portolan charts at that time.
